31.01 Giveaway and Recipe

I'm really excited to announce that I've teamed up with fab discount code site www.DiscountCoder.com to giveaway a £25 Topshop voucher to one lucky winner.

The rules are simple:

1. Giveaway is open to UK readers only (sorry my international loves, I'll be running more giveaways soon!)

2. To be entered just leave a comment on this post, with a way for me to get in touch with you if you win (e-mail address or blog link)

3. The giveaway will close in one week, at midday, Sunday 7th February. The winner will be picked using a random number generator.

Good luck!
Be sure to check out DiscountCoder for money off your online shopping at stores like La Senza, Wallis and Very.co.uk to name just a few.

And, as requested here is a treat for everyone...the recipe for the Lemon Madeira Cake (which has proved to be a huge hit here)
If you don't want to eat the entire cake at once, please note it can be kept in the freezer for up to three months and thawed as required.

150 g (5 oz) butter or margarine
150 g (5 oz) caster sugar
3 medium eggs, lightly whisked
225 g (8 oz) Be-Ro Self Raising Flour (any self raising flour is fine)
few drops lemon essence (I subbed this for the zest of one large lemon)
thin slices citron peel (optional)

1 Heat oven to 180ºC, 350ºF, Gas Mark 4. Grease an 18 cm (7 inch) cake tin.
2 Cream fat and sugar, beat in lightly whisked eggs with a little flour.
3 Add essence, then fold in the remaining flour.
4 Bake for about 1¼ hours. Place peel on top after half an hour in the oven if using this.

I found because I baked mine in a shallow tray, it only took 35 mins to be cooked to perfection, so please be aware of this when attempting this!
The cupcakes took around 15 minutes, but depending on size could take anything from 10 minutes upwards.

Have fun and enjoy

29.01 finally

This week has dragged by at a snails pace, always the way when times are tougher. Still, I made it through and for that I am thankful.

Today's outfit consists of a forgotten about pair of tights and a combination of two of my favourite colours for spring. It's too cold for wearing outside of the house, but I'm going nowhere, so it doesn't really matter!

Photobucket

Photobucket

I also got round to baking a Lemon Madeira cake, requested by my Mum, it may not be the prettiest cake I've ever made the even the scent of it that's currently working it's way around the house is more than making up for that!

Photobucket

When it is fully cool I will trim the edges to make it neater I think.
There was enough mixture left over to trying out my silicon cupcake cases. I love these and need more! I only have four right now.

Photobucket

Photobucket

The recipe came from our oldest cook book, which is one of my favourites! I expect lots of UK people have one of these lurking somewhere in their house.

Let me know if you want the recipe!

27.01 keeping busy

Ok, I think I'm with it enough to resume blogging and commenting properly now. Thank you so much for the continued support and kind words. I appreciate each and every one.

I'm finding that I'm mostly okay if I'm busy, so I haven't spent too much time at home lazing around like I normally would. Monday I finally caught up with a friend for coffee and yesterday Mum and I hit Bristol for some retail therapy.

We pretty much took shopping till we dropped seriously and were exhausted by the time we limped back home. Despite missing the bulk of the sales there were still a lot of bargains around, though I bought new season stock only, clothes wise...pieces that can be worn now and in to Spring/Summer when they arrive.

Today I am wearing a dress from Next that Mum decided she was treating me to. Next is somewhere I often overlook, but was suprised yesterday when I found myself coveting much of their s/s range.

Also, a little while ago I wrote a post about www.wickedeliclingerie.co.uk and mentioned that they sent me a couple of pairs to review from their sexy hosiery selection.
I posted an outfit with the first pair last week, and today I am sporting the second, which means it is time for my thoughts.

I have found tights to be hit or miss in terms of quality, not always related to the amount I have paid for them. As you know I have quite a vast collection [in the region of 30 pairs at last count] with prices varying from 50p-£10.
Both pairs of tights from wickedelic rate up at the top quality wise, making them, in my opinion, worth the price on the website [£7 for the floral side pair and £10 for the back seam pair].
Often, with low denier tights I find they ladder almost as soon as I put them on, regardless of how careful I am. These didn’t, and are well made enough to make me think that they won’t any time soon.

The service from the website was excellent. The tights were with me within 48 hours of me making my choice and arrived well packaged in a discreet padded envelope.
Standard delivery costs £4, but is free when you spend £35 or more [which is easily done with me, where tights are involved].

It is quite hard to review something like tights, compared to makeup, food or drink so apologies if this doesn’t flow particularly well. I would like to thank Nick at wickedelic for giving me this opportunity and would urge you all to check out the website if you haven’t already done so…I’ve spied some new styles on there that are on my lust list.

Anyway,
I hope everyone is well, I promise to catch up with your blogs over the course of today and tomorrow, it's the perfect form of escapism for everything that is going on in my head.

There will also be another giveaway posted soon, so stay tuned for that.

25.01 Winner

First of all, a heartfelt and sincere thank you for the kind words and thoughts left behind on yesterday's post. I was moved to tears by everyones kindness and understanding.

Secondly, thank you to everyone who entered and supported my giveaway! Sadly there can only be on winner, and that winner is:

MJ ... congratulations girl, I'll be in touch shortly!

Stay tuned for another giveaway starting tomorrow.

I'm hoping that by Wednesday I'll feel a bit more like getting dressed and wearing something more blogworthy.
Since Saturday I've donned a uniform of shorts and a jumper.

It feels a little strange to be posting photos so soon, and yet I know life cannot go on hold.
I've done a lot of thinking and re-evaluating of my own situation and know that things must change.
And they will.

Hopefully this week, perhaps today I'll finally get enrolled on the media law course. I need to stop holding myself back.

Thank you again for the support and well wishes. You are all wonderful people who deserve nothing but the very best from life xxx

24.01

If my comments and blogging are scarce for a few days, forgive me. Yesterday I found out about the passing of a very brave and beautiful girl who I was honoured in knowing and having her presence, albeit not physical in my life.
Needing to work through the numbness and process the fact this IS real, and that none of us are immune/immortal (especially where eating disorders are concerned) has knocked me sideways. I mean, you know it, but sometimes it takes something like this for reality to hit home.

Hopefully by tomorrow things will have sunk in enough to resume normal posting; although in some ways that feels a bit shallow, she, Karen-Ann would not have wanted any of us to put our lives on hold.

Rest in Peace Sweet girl,
free from this hell.

On a lighter note,

Happy Birthday to my Beloved Grandad.

Stay safe everyone <3

22.01 metal mouth

Wow, Friday has rolled round again, how fast has this week flown by? What are your weekend plans everyone? I'm off work tomorrow and will be hopefully catching up with a cousin who is down for the day. Sunday is my Grandad's birthday, so it is going to be a family filled weekend.

Thanks for the good wishes about the braces, the uncomfortable-ness is easing at last and I don't feel as insecure as I thought I would about having one at the age of almost 23...I guess I'm kind of used to it now, and fingers crossed the end result will be worth the discomfort!

Photobucket

Outfit wise, I ordered this dress from ASOS only to discover it is incredibly short. I'm in love with the shape and pattern though, so it's a keeper, to be worn with jeggings for now.
Do we think I could get away with thick tights though?

Do not forget you have until Monday to enter my giveaway!

20.01 what I wore yesterday

Good morning and happy mid-week. Wow, I'm a bit overwhelmed with the response to my giveaway! Haha, I guess I wasn't aware of how many people read my blog. Thank you so much to those of you who have entered so far, and for those who haven't; you have until Monday to do so.

This is what I wore yesterday to go get my brace fitted on my top teeth. No photos of what I'm wearing today due to subsequent sore mouth and feeling rubbish! I'd forgotten how painful braces are (this is something like my 5th time!)
Excuse rubbish photos, it was early and I was rushing.

Right, best get a move on, I have my third and final appt of the week to get to...
and it's bloody snowing again; wonderful! Thankfully it is mixed in with rain and shows no sign of settling!

18.01 outfit+giveaway

Hello! Happy Monday, I hope everyone had a good weekend?

The slightly warmer weather has given me the oppurtunity to wear/road test one of the pairs of tights sent to me by Wickedelic. I will be writing a review once I've worn the second pair as well, I just wanted to show off how awesome they are!

Photobucket

Photobucket

I had to kick off my week with an early (well, 10am which is early for me!) doctors appointment, and couldn't resist a little bit of retail therapy to make it worthwhile. I had an urge to buy shoes, and was prepared to come home with little money,
I kind of wanted heels, but currently walk better in flats...so when I saw these babies for £3 I snapped them up

Photobucket

Photobucket

They originally cost £20 in New Look.

Heels can wait, hopefully by summer my legs will be more forgiving!

Now, giveaway!
Here is (some) of what the winner will get; I will be adding a couple more bits over the course of this week to make sure there is an element of suprise

Photobucket

So far there is a cute cupcake lip gloss, a pack of four face masks, and ELF shimmering facial whip in spotlight which I raved about in my beauty post.

There are no rules, as such, all you need to do to enter is leave a comment on this post and include your favourite sweets/candy/chocolate (indulge my sweet tooth and nosy nature)
and a way I can contact you, either blog link, or e-mail address.

Giveaway is open to ALL readers, and will end on Monday 25th January at 1pm.

Good luck

Wow, so this is post number 100 on this blog, I believe I was up to about 300 on my old one, but still, this is still a cause for celebration and there WILL be a giveaway posted on Monday.

For now I bring you yesterdays outfit [today I am barely out of my polyester work uniform]

It feels so good to be able to wear more normal outfits again, the snow has at last melted and temperatures are more bearable.

What are your plans for the weekend? Nothing exciting happening here, I have some jewellery to be posted up for sale tomorrow, and plan on making the most of my last couple of days of braces free teeth by chewing epic amounts of gum!

My Top Picks for S/S10 under £40

When online shopping, my first port of call is VoucherCodes.co.uk to check whether there are any discount codes available for where I plan to buy from. Before now I've saved money at ASOS, and have printed off vouchers for 2 for 1 restaurant deals.

When they got in touch with me and asked me to pick 5-10 pieces that I think will be hot for 2010 I jumped at the chance. The catch to this was, that everything must be under £40.

Having had enough for winter, I set about compiling my picks for spring and summer. You'll notice a bit of a theme going on in the form of girlish pieces and nude colours and that's because I am head over heels in love with all things etheral right now.

So, here are my 10 and where you can buy them.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Skirt, £35 from ASOS

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Dress, £38 also from ASOS

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Shoes, £35 from ASOS again (I'm a bit addicted to browsing there!)

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Bag, £35 from Marks and Spencer

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Dress, £39.50 Marks and Spencer; they really have some great pieces in right now!

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Floral Jacket, £32 from Miss Selfridge, I can see this being suprisingly versatile.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Shoes, £30 from New Look

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Dress, £35 from House of Fraser

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Dress, £35 from Topshop

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Daisy sequined Cropped Tee, £28 from Topshop.

The hardest part of this challenge was narrowing it down, there are so many gorgeous pieces out there at affordable prices, which is good to know when you have little money like moi.

Right now there are loads of great fashion and beauty discount codes at VoucherCodes.co.uk including one from Office who currently have an amazing sale going on,
and you can save 10% on your next order at Oasis
I recommend signing up to the weekly e-mail which will inform you of the top 20 best codes so you never miss a bargain
(just don't blame me if you have to declare bankruptcy)

13.01 simple stripes

Last night bought more snow by the bucket load, it's half settled and half not so instead of being prettily blanketed in white outside there are just slippy and slushy messes everywhere.

Simple outfit, to which I added a pair of jeans as well as my coat, scarf and gloves when I popped out for a walk an hour ago.
The jumper is a recent purchase, as recent as yesterday in fact from New Look and is warmer than it looks.

Enjoy your day, and remember; we're half way to the weekend now!

Livia Corsetti has won many major European awards for their exciting range of lingerie and here at Wickedelic you can see why!

(text taken from the website)

Now, me being me, I immediatley homed in on the hoisery selection. I was sent two pairs of tights which will be featured and reviewed on the blog as soon as the weather warms up enough to wear outfits that don't require multiple pairs of tights..but for now, here are my other favourites.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

These stockings remind me of tights I saw heading down the runways, and at £8 are a more budget friendly option!

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Always on the lookout for something quirky, the "Jester" tights are a bargain at £3.99, a vast saving on those available at places such as American Apparel, whom I can never afford

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

And these lace ankle socks (£4) are just too cute to resist!

I also fell in love with some of the lingerie available, but (call me prude) I didn't really want to publish my under garmet choices on my blog!

Delivery is free for UK residents when you spend £35 or more,

and

between NOW and the end of 2010, use the code DAISY to recieve 10% off your order.

So, get shopping and stay tuned for my review of the tights I recieved.

Outfit post tomorrow
and as I'm nearing my 100th post since moving my blog here, and have just reached 200 followers, you can expect a giveaway of sorts soon.

11.01 grey day

Happy Monday! Thanks for sharing your winter beauty must haves with me yesterday (please, carry on) there are definitley some products I'll be investigating in.

Another cold dreary day today, though for the first time in ages I have absolutley no intention in leaving the house which means I can get away with slightly fewer layers. Grey seemed the most appropriate colour choice for such a dull day, apparently we have yet more snow on its way tonight and tomorrow.

This outfit came about after seeings lots of jumpers with a ruffled hem, making it look like a sweater worn over a dress. Not willing to spend money on such a thing, I had a go at improvising. I think the skirt needs to be shorter, or perhaps the jumper longer...any shorter on the skirt length and it'd be indecent I fear.

Have a fab week,
stay warm and safe! xxx

10.01 winter beauty

This cold weather makes my skin so dull and dry, fighting it seems like a never-ending battle, and I'm curious to know how everyone copes.

These are my top three products, what are yours?

Photobucket

E45 Lotion, which I get from Boots, Superdrug or Tesco. I use this stuff liberally on my face and body for intense dry skin relief. It's suitable for the most sensitive of skin and costs around £2.59 a bottle
(photo from superdrug.com)

Photobucket

Vaseline Rosy Lips, again I buy this from Boots, Superdrug or Tesco for around £1.40. I use this not only on my lips, but for a sheer and subtle glow on my cheeks. In this weather not much blusher is needed as the freezing temperatures give natural colour to my cheeks!
(photo from chemistdirect.co.uk)

Photobucket

ELF shimmering facial whip is a recent discovery of mine (I know, wayyyy behind) and was skeptical about how good a product that only cost £1.50 could be. I use the white shade "spotlight" and it gives the perfect luminous glow to my skin, stoping that dull, grey hue I tend to take on during the winter months.

My current winter perfume is Lola by Marc Jacobs as I tend to favour less subtle scents in winter than I do when the weather is warm. I was lucky enough to get a 100ml bottle of this for Christmas, so I'm set to smell good for a while.

I hope everyone is having a great weekend, more snowfall here, and it looks set to last.
Going by how mad work was yesterday (it made Christmas and New Year look quiet) you'd think the world was about to end.
